Last week was a busy one for me. My husband graduated with a Masters in Technology (Construction Management) so we flew to Melbourne to attend the ceremony. It was a good chance to have a look around the laneways and hunt down some street art and fab little shops. Here is a pic of one of the crazy laneways. I will need to go back another time as 24 hours was not enough!
On Sunday I went to check out Mathilda’s Market in Brisbane http://www.mathildasmarket.com.au/. It had great locally made children’s clothing, toys and gifts. I am hoping to have a stall there in July. Watch this space!
I have also been finishing off some custom orders for bags and bibs. More photos next post.
Birthdays have been the focus of my creative efforts this week. My eldest daughter turned 4 and I turned… well, lets just say I am a LOT older than 4.
My daughter chose this cake from the classic ‘Australian Women’s Weekly Children’s Cake Book’. I don’t think I’ll be selling my skills as a cake decorator any time soon, but it was fun to make.
In order to promote my etsy.com store I am participating in the DUST Team March Sale. These are the two items that I created for the theme ‘Green Dreams’. It gave me a chance to use some fantastic vintage fabrics out of my stash box.
The bag is made from a beautiful linen fabric with a wild flower print that was once a cover for a day bed. I made a matching zippered purse that can be attached to the bag with cotton tape. The linen is the perfect weight for bag-making and the print is just lovely.
The fabric that I used for the purse was one of those opp-shop finds that makes trawling through all that junk worthwhile. It looks to be a 1960s print and I guess it was probably used as curtain material. I have a long length of it that is about 20cm wide - perfect for making purses!
